The High Windows
Lena Revenko (b. 1976, Minsk) creates worlds of myth, dream, and imagination, where childlike and fantastical elements intertwine with folkloric imagery drawn from the flora and fauna kingdoms. Revenko was born in Belarus and immigrated to Israel in 1991. Engaging with immigration, belonging, and identity, her work seeks to blur boundaries and bring different visual languages into a shared space.

For the High Windows platform at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Revenko envisioned the windows’ display space as a living entity—not just a place people look at and view the art on display, but one that looks back at them. Her animals and endearing hybrid creatures appear in the windows as quiet observers, watching passersby approach the museum building. A subtle reversal of perspective thus takes place: rather than visitors entering the museum to view the artwork, it is as though the work first notices and observes them. Who is watching whom? The windows, as a liminal threshold suspended between interior and exterior, invite imagination into everyday life, and bring curiosity and playfulness into the public sphere. Even when the museum is closed, the building remains present in the urban landscape, drawing attention and inviting involvement.
